Web Development
One Year Anniversary
So there it came, there it went. One year later. Cherny.com has now officially been a blog and a Web site that I’ve actually been working on off and on for exactly one year now. Heh, even if I’ve had the domain since 1997 or something.
Whew. And what a year of change. I didn’t post about a lot of the change, I’ve been posting mainly Web development related stuff, which doesn’t surprise me much. I’m a pretty private person so the 11 personal posts to the … uh, rest of them, doesn’t surprise me. I’ve got a lot of … opinions … and I tend to run off at the keyboard given the chance. But, I generally try to provide solid content and avoid creating a link farm, although I did recently create an “elsewhere” category. But links, that’s what Del.icio.us is for, and that link blog over on the far right. Yeah, see those links off to the top right? I update those almost daily. Really, I do.
Rough Around the Edges
So, yeah, the site is a little rough around the edges. There’s much I’ve learned in the last year and I’m not totally thrilled with the Textpattern configuration I landed on, but it gets the job done. I’ve got a huge todo list, but I’m not going to post that, since I’m liable to never get there.
Except one thing: the feeds. The feeds are #1 on the list. First, I’m probably going to ditch the “personal” and “webdev” as separate feeds, unless someone can compel me otherwise. Also, I want to get the links from the Link Blog (pay attention, see, over on the right? I update those daily! Really, I do! Did I already say that?) into the feeds since I bet no one even notices them as being updated. Oh, and do I need both Atom and RSS? Probably not. So yeah, the feeds.
Also — no, I said I wasn’t going to…
Popular Posts
Well, just thought I’d link up a few of the more popular (not that much here is really popular) posts. Cuz, you know, they need more traffic when the others which aren’t getting linked to … oh never mind.
- Accessible Ajax, A Basic Hijax Example – easily the most popular post, mostly since Alex posted the link to it. It’s also a misleading article, but I realized that right after calling it what I called it. At least it lead to the Accessibility Links which hopefully helped a few people.
- New Firefox 2 and Multiple Firefox Version Installations – this one gets a fair amount of traffic off Google, which is nice.
- DomLoaded Object Updated – this gets a fair number of links also, and it’s a shame I posted the script over like, 5 posts with various updates. Also, the script needs a little help, but generally works OK.
- JavaScript Function Arguments: Default Values, Passing Objects, and Overloading – I’m pleased this one actually gets some traffic because I like that one. Even if, well, the examples are a little weak.
- Dual CSS Background Images – I like this one too, although a co-worker just fixed the dumb extra, meaningless DIV issue. He’s putting it in with JavaScript. Heh, yeah, of course.
- On HTTP: Page Load Times, Multiple File Requests, and Deferred JavaScript – I always liked that one too.
Ok, could my post titles be any longer? It’s called keyword packing, I suppose. Heh. :-) Well, so I have something else I need to work on and spend my time on, so I’m going to go now, and yeah, the updates will be slow probably over the next month. But I’m writing a lot. Elsewhere…
